4/28/2008 – Monday

Freedom Day was really Sunday, but like all people who desire a day off from work, South Africa and its citizens lengthened the holiday to include today. The students had a soccer match in the middle of the day, where they played the university team that is made up of students in exile from Zimbabwe. It’s not often I see someone in my age bracket watching these games, but today…with a broad floppy hat, stood a tall white man cheering on the Zimbabweans. Peter Roebuck is a freelance writer on cricket and Zimbabwe. It seems he has become the adoptive father for several of the members of the team who are orphans or refugees and getting an education at UKZN. We both await the day’s news of the election results. He has more at stake as he is supporting about 5 of the young men. [to read his articles search http://www.witness.co.za/ for Peter Roebuck.]
